STEP 1: ACTIVATOR
This taylor made community program has been designed to not only impart practical upcycling techniques, but to ignite motivation within communities to treat their environments to the best of their abilities. We use the Ecobrick system as an activator as, upon integration into a community, the extreme waste output reduction motivates participants to undertake other forms of sustainable waste management.
STEP 2: MICRO-BUILDER
During the Activator Program a core team of dedicated ecobrickers make themselves known. We’ve found that fuelling their curiosity even further (by providing extra skill-sets) implements a culture of self reliance. This program has been created specifically with teenagers and young adults in mind but different age groups can also be accommodated. Once an ecobrick community has been activated it is crucial to maintain the newly formed habits and order to do this we’ve learnt that training Artisans within the project community is an effective strategy. This program creates opportunities for micro enterprises to develop around the products that result from the skills transfer. The documentation of this program is crucial as it displays proof of concept and can help the client to secure funding for future building programs.
STEP 3: CLASSIC CLASSROOM
This program combines a detailed project design (preceded by a specific brief formation) with evidence of success from the first two programs. Investigations are undertaken to understand the socio economic as well as environmental context of the project site so that the classroom design responds appropriately to its surroundings. At program's conclusion the participant will have achieved documentation that will assist with raising the construction funds as well as implementing the process.
